Patients undergoing chemotherapy in Taranaki will be able to receive their treatments in a more comfortable way soon, with the recent donation of $7,500 to the Chairs for Chemo charity. This amount will purchase one new, purpose-built chemotherapy chair for the Oncology Ward at Taranaki Base Hospital.

Cancer has touched many of us in the team in some capacity. When we heard about this fundraiser it was a very short discussion around the boardroom table - if we can help, even to just alleviate some of the discomfort, then we’re doing it,” said Rob McEwan, Director at Baker Tilly Staples Rodway Taranaki

The current chairs are over 14 years old and have seen tens of thousands of patients in their time.

Directors Daimon Stewart, Marise James and Rob McEwan visited the Oncology Ward recently to present a cheque to the Chairs for Chemo organisers, Jenny Bunn and Julie Gillespie; both of whom have spent many hours sitting in the old chairs undergoing chemotherapy.

The team also met the hardworking nurses from the ward, Taranaki Health Foundation Chairperson Adrian Sole and General Manager Bry Kopu-Scott, who were thrilled with the donation.

“It’s amazing to have such generous businesses and individuals in our community, all working hard and willing to support our community when it’s needed. We’re very grateful for this donation from Baker Tilly Staples Rodway Taranaki and we’re looking forward to receiving and installing all the chairs; each providing a little comfort and respite to patients.”

Baker Tilly Staples Rodway Taranaki is locally owned and managed by a team of ten Directors.
