A new future for local healthcare

2026 is the year that the New East Wing Building will open. What would have been a good hospital will now be a great hospital because of the generous support of local businesses and the community.

Over $6 million has been donated to the New East Wing Building so far. 100% of that money will be used to provide equipment upgrades, facilities for carers and whānau, and enhancements that will improve the wellbeing of patients receiving care.

The New East Wing Building will mean that more people can be treated locally, with less impact on their lives and being able to spend more time with their families.

Healthcare highlights

New MRI installed

The New MRI installed at Taranaki Base Hospital
The radiology department will include a new MRI machine, providing highly accurate, high-resolution imaging to help diagnose cancers, strokes, infections and many other illnesses in a non-invasive way.

Rooftop helipad

The rooftop helipad has a direct link to all departments in the building, saving vital minutes for those arriving at Taranaki Base Hospital, as well as providing a vital link to other hospitals when needed.  

Maternity pools

Every maternity room includes a pool for water births
Every birthing suite will have a pool for water births if needed. This means more birthing plans can be fulfilled, providing a more comforting environment for mothers able to give birth how they want.

Everyone who donates to the New East Wing Building will be recognised on our donor recognition space in the main lobby. We want to make sure we have captured everyone’s name in a way that they wish to be recognised.

Please use the form below to confirm the name you would like as part of the recognition. It doesn’t have to be your name, but we do have a couple of rules:

  • While we understand your donation may have been in memory of someone, we can not include text such as "In memory of..." or "Remembering...". We can only use names.
  • We can include up to two names. For instance you may have donated as a couple in which case we can print "John and Lucy Robertson". If you want to include more than two names, the recognition will have to be along the lines of “Robertson Family”
